The Division of International Emergency Medicine at Brown University is now accepting applications for our 2014-2016 Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship! Sponsored by the University Emergency Medicine Foundation (UEMF) and affiliated with the Brown University Alpert Medical School and its Program in Public Health, this two-year academic fellowship boasts a wealth of research mentoring opportunities, robust interdepartmental collaboration, and a rich clinical and teaching experience, both domestically and abroad. Fellowship applications will be accepted on a rolling basis but are due no later than September 12, 2013.
As part of our fellowship, you can:
- Obtain mentorship and support from our entire academic Division of International Emergency Medicine, with six full-time faculty and three associate faculty actively engaged in international emergency medicine development, training, research and humanitarian relief.
- Choose to earn either a Masters of Public Health (MPH) or Masters of Science in Clinical and Translational Research (MSc) from Brown University or a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) at an outside institution, depending on your long-term interests in the field.
- Participate in a dedicated humanitarian emergency/disaster certification course, such as the ICRC Health Emergencies in Large Populations (HELP) course.
- Rotate through one or more established international experiences, including projects in Rwanda, Liberia, Nicaragua, Haiti, Turkey, Bangladesh, American Samoa, and Fiji in areas such as post-conflict development, EM curricula design and training, acute humanitarian and disaster response, and global EM research.
- Benefit from Brown University's Global Health Initiative, a unique forum for faculty and fellow collaboration that fosters cross-departmental mentoring relationships.
Comprehensive fellowship benefits include:
- Competitive starting salary at about $90,000 per year
- Full benefits, including health, dental, disability, & malpractice insurance
- $5000 per year for CME
- Small seed grants available for research projects
- Support for evacuation insurance, international travel, and housing at field sites

Include in your application a letter of intent, an updated copy of your CV, and three letters of reference. The deadline for submitting applications for our Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship will be September 12. High quality applicants will be invited to interview with us in Providence, RI on October 4. We will be offering interview spots on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early in order to secure an interview spot.
