Subject: NSLIJ International EM Fellowships

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the North Shore - LIJ Health System in New York is now accepting applications for its International Emergency Medicine Fellowship. The fellowship is designed to train emergency medicine physicians to develop sustainable pre-hospital and emergency medicine training programs as well as emergency response systems internationally. Fellows will have part of their time set aside for funded travel to work on projects, giving them opportunity to network, lecture, and do research. This program can be completed in either 1 year or 2 years depending on the fellow's interest in completing a Masters in Public Health. Fellows will receive a salary that is among the highest in the country for any emergency medicine fellowship.
Currently, our projects are focused on education and systems development. In India we are training physicians to be EM doctors and academicians equipped to train future EM physicians. As part of their fellowship, they learn the skills of an emergency physician, as well as important organizational and system skills to create ED's in the underdeveloped regions where they will work. In Mexico, we are developing systems for disaster preparedness, pre-hospital care and emergency medicine training for physicians.
In addition to these projects, our health system hosts the annual New York Symposium for International Emergency Medicine, a well-attended conference that brings in participants from around the world to discuss current issues in international emergency medicine. We have also sponsored and put on conferences and training programs in many parts of the world.
Fellows will have the opportunity to work on all of these projects during the fellowship. However, we feel the strength of our program is in the opportunity and mentorship that we give our fellows to develop their own ideas and projects.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of intent, current CV and two letters of recommendation via email to:
