Yale Wilderness Medicine Fellowship
The Wilderness Medicine fellowship is a new 1-year program that provides the core content of medical knowledge and skills in being able to plan for and to provide care in an environment that is limited by resources and geographically separated from definitive medical care in all types of weather and evacuation situations. The fellow will be supported to attain certification with the Diploma in Mountain Medicine as well as becoming a leader and an advanced instructor in the growing specialty of wilderness medicine. You will be supported to attain certification with the Diploma of Mountain Medicine, which will include a climb of Mount Rainier and completing a level 1-avalanche course.
You will become an advanced instructor and course director for wilderness education courses, to include Advanced Wilderness Life Support.
You will attend the Wilderness Medical Society’s Wilderness and Mountain Medicine Course and begin the process to becoming a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine
You will direct the resident / student elective rotation in Wilderness Medicine
You will be a faculty advisor for the Wilderness Medicine Area of Concentration for the Yale EM Residency and the Wilderness Medicine Interest Group for the Yale School of Medicine.
You will undergo additional training in desert medicine as well as wilderness toxicology.
Fellows will be Yale academic faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine.
