FW: Fellowship opportunities at UMass

The Univ. of Massachusetts Dept of Emergency Medicine currently has 12 fellows in 6 different fellowships: toxicology; ultrasound; EMS; international and global health; disaster management and planning; and administration and quality.

Please see the attachment regarding the Toxicology Fellowship at the UMass, and forward to prospective residents.

Furthermore, our International Emergency Medicine Fellowship has expanded and is looking for qualified Fellows. Further details on this opportunity are below.

The UMass Division of Global Health and International Emergency Medicine is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for the 2014-2016 UMass Global Health and International Emergency Medicine Fellowship. This two-year fellowship, run in association with UMass Medical School and the University of Massachusetts School of Public Health and Health Sciences, challenges emergency physicians to be leaders in global health by combining expertise, practical field experience, public health training, educational activities, and research opportunities in a global context.

The didactic curriculum is structured around a series of core conferences and readings from organizations active in global health including the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations, Doctors Without Borders, and the World Health Organization, as well as key journal articles, policy statement and on-line resources.  Fellows will also participate in the monthly Department of Emergency Medicine Global Health Lecture Series as well as the resident Distinction Tract in Global Health.  GH/IEM fellows will also have the opportunity to develop teaching topics for the Emergency Medicine Resident conferences on global and public health–related topics.

The UMass Global Health and International Emergency Medicine Fellowship is proud of its close ties with the 501c3 non-profit organization, Global Emergency Care Collaborative (GECC), and the cross-institutional work GECC is doing to promote sustainable, scalable EM development in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. Field experiences will center around emergency care training and systems development at established field sites in East Africa. Fellows will have the opportunity to contribute to an ongoing development of training programs in East Africa, as well as potential future sites in South East Asia.

Clinical hours are fulfilled at a combination of busy academic and community EDs in central Massachusetts that serve a large immigrant population. The Department of Emergency Medicine also houses fellowships in Toxicology, Disaster, EMS, Administration, and Ultrasound. The Division of GH/IEM has strong collaborative relationships with the other divisions. Salary and benefits are very competitive and annual education and travel funds are included in the package.
